ARTIST STATEMENT

My work lives in the tension between the brutal and the beautiful. Drawing on wabi-sabi, I embrace imperfection, impermanence, and incompleteness as the true substance of human experience.

Through mixed media, I layer raw materials with moments of unexpected elegance — allowing roughness and refinement to share the same surface. What appears unfinished is deeply intentional.

This is a portrait of resilience. Not triumphant, but quiet. Worn. Still standing. Beauty, I believe, is most truthful when it carries its scars openly.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Personal story: I am a Belgian national, with a British accent, born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, who got to live the American dream by way of a French Canadian circus, Le Cirque du Soleil. My multicultural background and performing arts career is told through vulnerable and authentic story-telling on canvas and board. The viewer gets to meet my soul.

BIO

Vital has been called an international man of intrigue. He discovered art while performing in Cirque du Soleil as an acrobat. Needing a challenge beyond the show, MYSTERE, he furthered his education. Unsure of what to take at UNLV, he randomly flipped through their catalogue blindly pointing at a class. Beginners drawing it was! And in 1994 the journey into fine art began. It never stopped, continually evolving as he challenges himself to explore, discover, often failing miserably along that journey. Vital is aware that it is through failure that we evolve.

But wait, there’s more! When Vital isn’t in his studio painting, he writes books (7-time author), speaks and coaches. He inspires others to find themselves and live with freedom and authenticity: Be INSPIRED to REACH HIGHER with Vital.
